Do People Still Read Blogs? Here’s why I Do

Source: Pinterest

I started writing on Cup of Tee a little over 6 years ago. What it is now isn’t what I initially planned it to be. I just wanted to write and share fictional stories, but I enjoyed talking about myself.

It was a bit weird at first. Writing to people who might not even care about what you’re saying. I thought to myself, “Why would anyone want to read this? Especially when it has nothing to do with them.”

But I didn’t care, or maybe I did, but I just didn’t care enough to stop. My little hiatus isn’t because of that; life just happened.

What gave me the extra push to start my blog was other Nigerian bloggers.

In order to get over the fear of “why would anyone read my blog?” I had to ask myself why I read other blogs.

I didn’t read other blogs because I was nosy and wanted to know what was happening in their lives. I read them because I wanted to know how they overcame hurdles in their lives.

Of course, I want to know the typical beauty and fashion how-tos, but my favourite blog posts have always been the personal ones— when people write about stages of their lives.

That’s how Cup of Tee became a space for me to document my life.

I once became so obsessed with what people want to read, and what I should write about to fulfill that need, but I didn’t start writing because of other people…

I started writing for me.

I share articles to let myself and other people know how I feel about something, and I love finding out that I’m not alone and other people are either going through the same experience or feeling the same way.

I read other people’s blogs for the same reason— to know that I’m not alone.

And even for guidance.

That’s why my first favourite blog was Osas’ Osastheking website. I loved it so much.

I loved reading about her thoughts and experiences. I’m sad it doesn’t exist anymore, but I’ll never forget it.

That blog, along with other blogs, made me start Cup of Tee, so I can also share my thoughts and experiences.

You’re lucky you found my blog, now you have first-class access to some things going on in my life. If you’re an amebo like me, I know you’d love it.

Stick around if this is your vibe, and it’s alright if it’s not. Thank you for making it this far.
